“We got all the source code that Konami had on file — which it turns out wasn’t the final release version of the games! D’oh!” - Tomm Hulett
D’oh! When tasked with upgrading two of the most polished video games in video game history to high definition, you didn’t use the polished, finished versions of the games? And you completely replaced the voice acting in Silent Hill 3? And you shipped it? And you sold it to a committed, vocal fan-base? Good grief, Charlie Brown.
I’m trying to search for an analogy to summarize this debacle but nothing is coming to mind. This is just an embarrassment. Everyone involved should be embarrassed. Everyone.
Patch or not, for the sake of principle, I think I’m going to seek out a refund.
And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what happens when the need to make a buck circumvents the dedication to put out a quality product, and combines with misplaced enthusiasm on the part of the developers.
“Newer” will never be the same as “better”, and going back to the basics and refining what was used before only works when you’re not taking ten steps backward for every one forward (eg. trying to turn the incomplete version of a game into the HD collection, instead of, y’know making the complete version be in HD).
